DIG Engineers is the design engineer for the construction of the new La Marque High School, athletic field, baseball and softball fields and associated parking improvements in the city of La Marque. The existing school site is on an approximately 58-acre tract located in the Dickinson Bayou watershed in Galveston County, Texas.
The proposed project will consist of revising the existing land plan and re-routing the existing drainage system from FM 1765 (TxDOT) going across the site to Galveston County Drainage District #2 Ditch. A regional hydrologic impact analysis was performed, and to account for the impact of overall re-development, a combination of storm drain network, and four detention ponds have been proposed.
The sanitary sewer was designed to collect wastewater from the new high school building, and new building improvements and conveyed to existing sewer line in Vauthier Street. A separate sewer line was designed to collect wastewater from restroom and concession buildings at the stadium and conveyed to the existing sewer on Duroux Road.
Fire hydrants and a fire department connection (FDC) were designed to provide coverage to all faces of the building. The existing 6” water line service on Vauthier Street had been significantly upsized to a 12” water line to accommodate the water and fire service demands of the new infrastructure.
The site consists of a 900-foot-long front entry drive designed for double stacking vehicles waiting to pick up students, school parking, open areas and stadium parking. The site was built according to the International Fire Code, ADA Requirements, and the authorities having jurisdiction, including Galveston County Drainage District #2, TxDOT, City of La Marque Engineering and City of La Marque Fire Marshal.
